The purpose of this IT Geospatial (GIS) Analyst position will address geospatial requests for these 
PARD Divisions: Cemeteries, Aquatics, Museums and Cultural Programs, Community Recreation,
Centralized Programs, and Natural Resource Programs. Specifically, the position will handle GIS 
projects including, but not limited to mapping, providing geographic changes and asisting with
the maintenance of our GIS digital database.

    & holidays. Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.
  • Travel:If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of
    Austin Driver Safety Program,
    you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise,
    you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
  • Tobacco and Vape-Free Workplace: PARD work site locations are tobacco-free. Use of tobacco
    products and/or e-cigarettes is not permitted on any PARD work site – including construction sites,
    parking lots, garages or in any personal vehicles located on the premises.
Pay Range

$21.75 – $27.73 per hour.

  • Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
  • May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience editing, analyzing, and maintaining data with the ArcGIS, ESRI programs or similar 
    GIS application software suites.
  • Experience editing, analyzing, and maintaining data with the ArcGIS, ESRI programs or similar 
    GIS application software for parkland and park-like settings.
  • Proficient in conducting geospatial edits and analysis using ESRI’s ArcMap in ArcGIS desktop
    version and in an environments with multiple/simultaneous editors.
  • Experience using ESRI’s workflow manager for performing analysis as well as for quality control.
  • Experience with reading and researching site plans, surveys and property records.
  • Experience interpreting ordinances, rules and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience analyzing data to inform program and project planning.
  • Experience working with community stakeholders on behalf of a governmental or corporate entity.
  • Experience communicating to diverse audiences (verbally, written and via presentations).

Other:

  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the

  1. Produce and/or analyze data from various sources to produce data sets, cartographic layouts, and
    reports in accordance with specifications and standards
  2. Assist in the design, implementation and/or perform data management activities such as modifying
    elements and assigning privileges.
  3. Assist with programming activities such as design, development, testing, debugging, documentation,
    and modification of geospatial applications
  4. Research and interpret source records and documents
  5. Perform business process analysis and develops alternatives, making recommendations
  6. Respond to requests for information from internal and external customers
  7. Assist with the creation, publication, implementation, and improvement of IT policies, governance,
    standards, and security
  8. Install new software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing, and implementing new
    geospatial technology
  9. Communicate and interface with members of the IT, vendor, and user communities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and

  • Knowledge of basic programming/scripting principles, techniques and documentation practices
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of mapping, coordinate systems, projections and scale
  • Knowledge of basic database design principles
  • Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation
    when learning or teaching new concepts
  • Ability to implement geospatial technology projects
  • Ability to modify geospatial applications and databases using scripting languages and automation tools
  • Ability to analyze automation needs and makes recommendations for data, geospatial software, and/or
    hardware solutions
  • Ability to read and interpret surveys, legal descriptions, cartography, engineering documents,
    construction plans, and aerial and orthophotography
  • Ability to read and interpret applicable laws and regulations
  • Ability to produce maps and other representations of geospatial data using geospatial software
  • Ability to accurately identify/determine customer needs and take appropriate actions and/or steps to
    address identified needs
  • Ability to recognize, value, and include different perspectives, experiences, approaches, and cultures
