Survey of GIS Professionals

The GIS Lounge recently published results for their Survey of GIS Professionals. The survey included over 1,000 participants from around the world. Some interesting findings as they relate to the ACC GIS program, include:

  • 66% of respondents were male, while 33% were female. The ACC GIS program is roughly 50% male and 50% female.
  • The overwhelming majority of respondents reported a higher education degree with almost 43% reporting a Bachelor’s and 45% having a Master’s degree as the highest level of education obtained. Over half of ACC GIS students have a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • Over half of respondents have completed a certificate program in GIS similar to the ACC GIS Level I and/or Level II Certificates.
  • Most respondents identified with a more general professional sector (e.g. consulting, government, technology, etc.) rather than a more specific industry sector (e.g. agriculture, energy, real estate, etc.).
  • ESRI ArcGIS software products are used by almost 90% of respondents. Gaining market share, QGIS is used by almost 50% of respondents.
