2020 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition

Join storytellers worldwide and showcase your GIS skills

Do you know someone in your community who makes a difference?  Do you want to tell their story?
Do you have a unique idea for visualizing global data?  Do you want to share your visualization with the world?

The 2020 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is now open to submissions.  This is a chance for you to showcase a great example of your own GIS project to the world.  The focus of the competition is on the United Nation's 17 SDGs which take a closer look at global challenges such as climate change, hunger, poverty, inequality and more.

Students will submit their work through 'Track 1' before November 25, 2020 and the winners will be announced in February 2021.  All winners will receive a certificate and be featured on the ArcGIS StoryMaps website.  Judges will evaluate each story based on:

  • Overall design, impact, and originality
  • Effective use of GIS and Esri’s storytelling platform
  • Effective communication of the importance of one or more SDGs
  • Solutions-oriented narratives around the SDGs

Check out the 2019 Winners to get an idea of your competition.  Visit with a GIS@ACC Professor whose area of specialty aligns with your ideas to brainstorm and ask for guidance on how to get started.

Good luck!!
