Research Analyst Internship & CAD Internship at AFD

AFD is looking for a graduate or undergraduate student that has geospatial and/or tabular data analysis experience. The position will be posted until December 16^th and the intern will work at the Austin Fire Department Headquarters from January 21^st to May 1^st, 2020.

Job Duties:

• Determines issues and identifies parameters for gathering information for a specific project.
• Plans, designs, and tests research instrumentation and evaluate data to assess reliability and validity of data.
• Conducts research studies using questionnaires, surveys, interviews, observation methods, case readings.
• Analyzes trends, policies, procedures using statistical data.
• Designs methodology for tracking data using various software programs.
• Authors, edits technical reports using details to support research findings.
• Consults, makes presentations and makes recommendations using statistical data.
• Coordinates issues with management and other targeted audiences, serves on committees working with specific research projects.
• Exchanges results of research data with other departments, agencies or specific technical groups.
• Reviews legislation, regulations, and policies to determine impact of research results.
• Formulates strategy for managing issues using statistical data.

Minimum qualifications:

• Graduation from High School or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience or three (3) of education related to the job.
• Recent graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with major course work in Planning, Geographic, Information Science (GIS), Social Science or related fields. Must be considered in good academic standing by college/university standards.

Hours: 15-20 per week with flexibility

Additionally, the Austin Fire Department is also looking to hire an undergraduate as a paid Computer-Aided Drafting Intern to work on our Pre-Incident Planning team. For this intern, we are looking for a strong background in CAD, but with some knowledge and experience in GIS, or the willingness to learn. The position will be posted until December 16^th and the intern will work at the Austin Fire Department Headquarters from January 21^st to May 4^th, 2020.
