ACC GIS Student Showcase at Little Walnut Creek Library - Thurs, Dec 12, 2019, 5:30 to 7 PM

Please join us for the ACC GIS Student Showcase at the Little Walnut Creek Library on Thursday, December 12th from 5:30 to 7 PM.
Inspired by input from local youth from the Rundberg Educational Advancement District (READ) 2017 Student Forum, ACC Geographic Information Systems (GIS) students developed analysis projects on the following civic issues centered on children, diversity, and safety:
  • Where are Rundberg's Public Art Spaces?
  • Language Diversity in Austin City Council District 4
  • How Food Connects Us: Cuisine Countries of Origin
  • Reduction in the most Harmful Crimes in the Rundberg Area
  • A Weighted Site Suitability Analysis for a Public Park in City Council District 4
  • Transit for Teens: Access to Austin's Recreational Resources for READ Youth
  • City of Austin Traffic Safety: Spatial Relationship between Schools and Traffic Fatalities 2013 to 2018
  • Demolitions and Income as Indicators of Future Gentrification in Historic "Redlined" Areas
In addition to posters and an interactive web map, portfolios of GIS cartography student work will also be on display. Attendees are invited to learn about the student projects, visit with each other, and enjoy some refreshments.

Special thanks to READ leaders Aida Cerda-Prazak and Lynn Osgood for their support this semester. Thanks also to the following community leaders for supporting the service-learning projects last semester upon which some of the current projects build: READ founder and APD Detective Ray Kianes, APD District Representative Patrick Stewart, APD Officer Anna Jackson, Sergeants Lee Davis and Ron Phillips, and APD Crime Analyst and ACC GIS alumna Sandy Perez. Photos from our last semester of service learning are available at this link.

Please contact Sally Holl at sally.holl@austincc.edu if you have any questions about the GIS Student Showcase or visit our ACC GIS website to learn more about our program. Hope you can stop by the Little Walnut Creek Library (835 W Rundberg Ln, 78758) to see our latest work!
