Planning Intern with City of Pflugerville

The City of Pflugerville Planning Department is seeking a part-time intern to support review, research, collection, and archiving of development activities.

Primary responsibilities include researching and gathering information pertaining to development and construction, as well as, field verification and documentation of pertinent information. Where applicable, documentation may include gathering spatial information for use within GIS along with any related information. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, cartographic assignments, data creation and site inspections. Secondary responsibilities include assisting with the review of platting, zoning and site plan applications. Provide research and graphic support for various reports including demographics or special studies. The position is expected to carry out all responsibilities in accordance with established City/departmental policies and procedures. Frequent interaction with City staff and the public is also a critical aspect of the position.

Position is limited to 2 to 5 days a week for an academic semester, not to exceed 19 hours per week. Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. See the job posting on the City of Pflugerville website for more information and to apply for this position.

DUTIES

  1. Gather and verify field information in support of department projects. 
  2. Provide mapping and related documentation of assigned projects. 
  3. Provide assistance reviewing plats, zoning applications and site plan inspection. 
  4. Assist with research and graphics related to demographics and other planning activities. 
  5. Provide internal customer support. 
  6. Scan and archive hardcopy information. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with ESRI desktop applications. 
  • Basic cartographic skills. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as customer service skills. 
  • Currently enrolled in college with a degree plan in Geography, Urban Planning, or related field. 
  • Valid Texas drivers license. 
  • Prior GIS course work preferred 
  • Prior course work in Urban or Regional Planning preferred
