Internship for Fiscal Year 2021 Fall semester Application deadline is: October 30, 2020  Location: Stephen F. Austin State Office Building, Austin, Texas Time Period: Fall 2020 (November – January 15, 2021) Schedule: Part-time, 10-19 hours/week, 250 hours total minimum per semester Compensation: $15.00 per hour + optional three (3) semester hours credit through university (arranged by the student) 

Title: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern

Paid and credit-based internship. $15.00 per hour for the semester and credit through college/university (to be arranged by the student).
General Job Description: GIS Intern will assist in projects to enhance the ability of TNRIS to serve data to the public. The work is primarily focused on the Research and Distribution Center (RDC) initiative to preserve the historic archive. This high priority photo scanning project requires a thorough review and maintenance of the photo collection. The photo maintenance includes erasing notations, lines and other marks on the historic photos. Additionally, the historic inventory will be updated as each collection has been prepared for scanning.
Job Duties: The intern will play a key role in TNRIS with responsibility for a high priority project to prepare the historic photo archive to be scanned. The photo maintenance includes erasing all notations, lines and other marks on the individual photo frames. Additionally, the interns will learn about the historic photo archive and asked to update the inventory as each collection has been prepared for scanning.
Qualifications: Applicants should either be enrolled at a recognized Texas college or university. Successful candidates will have a limited background in geography, environmental studies, or other related field, and a desire to learn about the importance of the historic photo archive that resides with TNRIS. Experience with ArcGIS software and related products, knowledge of aerial imagery, Lidar, remote sensing, GPS technologies, and familiarity with the geography of Texas is a plus. This position requires great attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well in team settings and independently. Candidates must be able to come to work in the Stephen F. Austin Building for the duration of the internship and adhere to the COVID-19 policies and precautions in effect by the Texas Water Development Board.
