Work schedule
10-15 hours per week during 5 hour shifts between noon-5pm, Wednesday - Sunday

Yes, the position pays $15.00 per hour.

Primary project
· The City of Austin Museums and Cultural Programs is seeking candidates for a GIS/GPS Exhibit Assistant to assist with collecting and assimilating data.
· The employee will gather data in spreadsheets and on site in the cemetery and authenticate the data.
· The employee will create and help create Esri StoryMap exhibits for the public using a design template.
· The Chapel’s digital programs maximize Esri’s capabilities for geolocating detailed information on people’s lives. Staff geolocate gravestones on a cemetery map for the purpose of public engagement and tourism. This may include using Survey 123, Collector, Dashboards, and other Esri applications.
· Additional duties include giving tours of the Chapel, Chapel digital exhibits, and the cemetery to visitors. This educates the public and informs our staff on the functionality of our maps, data, and exhibits.
· A substantial amount of time will be spent walking outdoors during the varied Texas weather.

Internship goals
· To contribute to collection of data and organization of information for educational benefit to the public.
· To apply GIS and GPS skills learned in an educational setting for real and public uses.
· To work with a small team of people to advance knowledge and grow communication skills.
· To learn the various uses of information and to improve platform for sharing historical data, with the public.

Qualifications
· Graduate or undergraduate coursework or major in Geography with GIS and GPS technology.
· Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
· Experience using spreadsheets and organizing information.
· High attention to detail and accuracy of information, including proofreading of text and numbers.
· Good communication skills and ability to relate to the public as our site has many of visitors.
· An interest in Austin and Texas history and storytelling a plus.

Additional information
This position can be either a summer internship or an ongoing temporary position depending on the student’s availability. Successful candidates will need to pass a background check and training to interact appropriately with a diverse public. To see our digital exhibits and to learn more,
