As the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Database Administrator, you will assist with the creation, administration, and maintenance of geospatial databases to ensure the availability, security, and integrity of the County’s geospatial data infrastructure. You will work with County data warehouses and extract, transform, load (ETL) processes to support advanced analytics, reporting, and visualization.

Position Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems, or a closely related field

 
Experience

• Two (2) years of experience involving geospatial database, design, development, and administration on an enterprise database management system (DBMS) such as Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL

 
OR

• An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

 
Our Preferred Candidate has

• Experience with DBMS best practices for performance tuning, troubleshooting, resource utilization, and disaster recovery
• Experience with developing in SQL and implementing database stored procedures, functions, and triggers
• Experience building and maintaining ETL processes using industry-standard tools such as FME, Talend, or SSIS
• Experience with Esri ArcGIS Technology, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGISEnterprise, and ArcGIS Online with a focus on Geodatabases
• Esri certifications related to database management and system administration
• Microsoft certifications related to data management

Essential Job Tasks

The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.

• Assists with the designing, building, implementing, and administering of spatial and non-spatial databases
• Assists with developing and administering automated ETL routines using custom scripts and Common-Off-The Shelf (COTS) products
• Develops SQL and Python scripts for data processing, analysis, and reporting
• Develops and implements SQL Server stored procedures, functions, and triggers when necessary
• Implements best practices for SQL Server resource utilization and disaster recovery
• Communicates technical information and ideas, both orally and in writing, by appropriating to the needs of the audience so others will understand
• Maintains a repository of technical documentation and GIS metadata
• Quickly learns and understands new technologies

 
Working Conditions
This position may require driving to various work locations in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Some work is performed after regular business hours, on weekends, holidays, and on-call 24x7 as needed. Work is done primarily in an office setting and requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities.
