The Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern will support the assigned department on a project and seasonal capacity. The Intern may be tasked with research and report writing regarding special projects and/or other issues important to the long-range and current needs of the Department. Part of the Internship may require participation in job shadowing activities with staff throughout the assigned department.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The GIS Intern will work under the direction of GIS Analysts and the GIS Supervisor. This position will work closely with other city departments and public agencies to provide GIS support including data collection, analysis, and map production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Perform field data collection.
- Research and execute spatial analysis using Esri’s ArcGIS suite.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, map production, and ArcGIS online application creation.
- Participate in job shadowing activities with staff throughout the city.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Currently enrolled in an accredited university or have graduated within the past six months. Must have completed enough course hours to be classified as a junior or at minimum have at least completed 30 semester hours. The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Information Technology, Urban and Regional Planning, or other field related to the position.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of GIS concepts and methodologies with an interest in city government.
- Proficient in Esri’s ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap and ArcCatalog.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of spatial analysis tools and concepts.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Skill in:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong oral & written communication skills.
- Skill and knowledge of social media platforms.
- Using computer and spreadsheet software.
- Preparing reports and conducting analysis.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Performing mathematical calculations to prepare reports, etc.
The GIS Internship will begin May 18, 2020 through August 14, 2020. The expected commitment will be 32 hours per week.
Hiring rate: $12 hour
