GIS Intern with the City of Austin's Corridor Mobility Program

The City of Austin is seeking candidates for a GIS Internship in support of the Corridor Mobility Program.

The GIS Intern will help create internal and public-facing materials, maintain online interactive maps, and develop dashboard interfaces. This position will also have the opportunity to assist with generating content for the Corridor Mobility Program’s website, assist with various mapping projects, and more. The intern will work directly with the Corridor Mobility Program’s Business Process Consultant, Zachary Ashburn, managing tasks associated with all divisions of the program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Familiar with ESRI products
  • Proficient in ArcMap and ArcCatalog
  • Experience creating, maintaining, and editing Shapefiles and File Geodatabases
  • Understanding of formatting maps for printing and use on websites

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skill in using ArcGIS Online
  • Ability to create ArcGIS Online custom applications including Story Maps, Collector App, 

Dashboards

  • Experience using ArcGIS Spatial and Network Analyst Extensions
  • Familiar with ArcGIS Business and Community Analyst

The intern will report for work approximately 15-20 hours per week.  The intern will generally report for work during weekday normal business hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) This internship has the potential to turn into a paid temporary position with the City of Austin.

Qualifications
Applicants from a variety of educational backgrounds will be considered.  Applicants majoring in Geographic Information Systems, Urban and Regional Planning, Public Affairs or similar fields are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should possess strong writing, speaking, interpersonal, and organizational skills.  Applicants should be able to work under tight deadlines with limited advance notice of their assignments. They should have demonstrated experience in working under deadlines and with a collaborative team.
